Only in Chicago.

I must say I would have never found this if it wasn't for the wonderful Fail Blog, they deserve all of the credit. I do know that it is no longer on google maps, I tried and tried to take a look at 6436 S. Oakley Ave and nothing would come up. Well it did but what you want to see is skipped over. They go six or seven houses away when you press forward, but you can still see the man in the white shirt and the kid walking on the side walk. This can happen anywhere but this one happened in Chicago, one of the toughest cities in the US.

I wonder what else you would be able to find on google maps?

Ann Sather Review

Today I finally decided that I should wake up and go have breakfast at Ann Sather. Ever since I have been in Chicago I have wanted to go to the restaurant cause it never seemed as if it was open except for in the morning. I never got it.

I had the Southern decadence, which is eggs over sausage over biscuits with gravy over it all. It was good. But the best part of the experience was ordering two sides to go with it. I ordered cinnamon rolls and hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were ok but the cinnamon rolls were amazing. I have never had rolls that good. I really recommend going there and ordering them. When I go home I think I will order some and take them back home with me.

The meal was good but the rolls were great. They give you two and it is like you might not need anything else. I got the rolls early and first and I was stuffed. But if I went back I think I would just get the rolls cause they are the best thing that I had. That is why I give the restaurant only 3 stars.

Oprah Party.

Today is the Oprah Party for her 24th season hear in Chicago. She has Michigan Ave closed off if you can believe it or not. Right in front of the Wrigley building, where I just so happen to work right now they have a stage. They have James Taylor, Jennifer Hudson, Black Eyed Peas, and Rascal Flatts preforming. Right now they are going through rehearsals with the bands so they can have sound checks before 5. It seems pretty cool. They have been sounding alright, I have gone and watched them all day.

I am hoping that when I go to the lobby that I might be able to catch a glimpse of someone famous. That is because they are using our lobby as a staging area where they all sit and get their makeup on. It is really interesting. I have heard the girl I want to see Fergie is suppose to be really small. I want to see her and some of the flatts so I can brag to my girlfriend that I saw them and she didnt.

One interesting note, if you watch the concert and they show you this girl dancing the entire time in front of the stage with a blue shirt know this, she is a payed dancer. Her and her group behind her have their own little bared section so they can go through their own dance ruttiness. They are ok but I dont want people to think that they actually came and danced like that. They have a pretty big area that they took over right in the center so they can be in the middle of everything, kinda BS right?

Another thing about those dancers is that they spent the entire day trying to teach people what to do during certain songs. so the entire crowd can have the same dance. It is cool but lame at the same time. It is cool for the fact that if everyone does it it is very visually cool, but lame for the fact that they have been teaching the crowd since 11am today. It is also lame that one of the guys in charge got on the mic and said, "If you don't dance the way we say when the camera is on you we will not film you, if you jump up and down when you see the camera we will not film you, if you dance like we tell you to we might film you." But then they have a camera man right in front of the dance group so what ever, they are going to be all over that telecast. The more I write about it the more I hate it, Let people enjoy themselves at a concert dont tell them what to do. Where is the fun in that? Let them be themselves not what these dancers want, dance your own way people stick it to Oprah's people. And I will probably be killed for saying that.

(UPDATE)
I went to ground level to check out the beginning performance by the black eyed peas and the crowds dance moves, it gave me chills it was so cool. I could feel Michigan ave bouncing up and down. It was so cool what a great way to start it all off. Unbelievable.

Moving again.

Well my lease is officially up for the place that I am subleasing here in Chicago, and I am moving into a friends place for a couple of weeks. I never really unpack any of my stuff cause I always know that I will just have to pack it up again and go. I am accustom to live out of a suitcase, since I have since I started this blog back in January.

I dont unpack so I dont have to pack again. I found that unpacking just to pack again in a couple of months is really boring and time consuming. I just fold my clothes after I wash them and put them back in the suitcase, so I can go whenever I need to. Some people call me crazy, they are like you are living there for three months why dont you unpack? After you explain it they still look at you like your crazy, but to get out of the conversation you just have to say, "Oh my god a fire breathing dragon fly," and jump for cover. Works every time.

I hope someday I will be able to find a place and unpack, but it doesnt really seem like today. But I can hope and dream.

I am so ready to go to Chicago.

Hurry up put me on a plane and lets go. Ever since I heard from the Miami Ad School that I was going to go to Energy BBDO in Chicago I have been really antsy. I spend at least three or four of my waking hours thinking about the agency. Will I like it? What clients will I work on?

I have to block these thoughts out because it affects my work. But that is easier said then done. I am so excited I just cant hide it, I want to go, I want to go right now.

I dont know if Chicago is the city for me but I think Energy is.

Next stop....Chicago.

This announcement from the school comes in record time. Usually it takes a couple of more weeks for the agencies to decide where you are going to go. But today I got my answer, Energy BBDO Chicago. It was my first choice on where I wanted go, just in case you dont remember the post that I had earlier.

I know I have thought about staying at CP+B to finish my book, but that was before I got accepted. I am really, really excited to go to Chicago and produce great work. I am excited to see what I can learn and what I can do for the agency. And I am excited about being paid.

Energy BBDO get ready because I am coming to work my ass off! Thank you Energy BBDO, I wont let you down.

This weekend I made a choice.

This last weekend I had to make three choices on where I would like to go next quarter. It was really hard to choose because this quarter unlike the past didnt have very many choices to choose from. A lot of the agencies pulled out this year because of the financial crisis. It has hit the agency world hard. A couple of weeks ago Fallon in Minneapolis let go of 14 or so creatives. It isnt a fun time to be looking for a job, and I will have to do that in six months. But anyways, the three choices that I made where to go to BBDO energy in Chicago for an internship, McGarry Bowen in New York City for an internship, and to stay at Crispin Porter + Bogusky and do the portfolio program but if that fills up by the time that gets to me I would do the greenhouse. I really dont care which one of these I go to because I like them all. They are really cool and would be a lot of fun. I love it here at Crispin but I would also like to be paid. Wish me luck.

Wow

Today the Miami Ad School sent out a list of places that we can intern at next quarter. It is half as many agencies then the last quarter. That really sucks. I only have one option if I want to live with my girlfriend in Chicago, it is an agency that i would like to go to but there is only one. But after that I really dont even know. The partner CP+B isn't even offering an internship next quarter. They are a partner and they have pulled out. I dont really know what I am going to do for next quarter but I hope I go some place.

The crumbling Advertising industry

The advertising industry is in a state of panic right now.  There has been massive layoffs in the last six months, massive.  A couple of agencies fired half of their staff, some fired everyone that didn't have a senior as a title.  If the economy keeps tanking I dont know if I will be able to find a job.  No one is hiring right now because they are to busy cutting the purse strings.

This was brought up because a couple of guys that I am greenhousing with at Lowe, got an internship through the Miami Ad School to go to Dubai.  They were planning on it and everything, they had been told that they were going to be there last month.  Today they received an email saying that they are not going to be there.  Our next quarter starts April 6 and they dont have anywhere to go.

I too fell in this trap.  But I finally found a place to go.  The school told me that I am accepted to Crispin Porter.  I dont know if I am going to go there, I applied for internships in Chicago, and if I get those I am going to Chicago, to get paid and see the most beautiful girl in the world.  Then after my internship was finished I would go back to the school and maybe Crispin.

In the end I believe the Karma bug came and bit this group.  They were the same group that stole my idea.  What comes around goes around.

I am finally getting off my hump.

Today I have been doing something that I should have done a long time ago. Apply for internships outside of Miami Ad School. I am looking for an internship in Chicago, because that would make the girlfriend happy. I will be up really late tonight writing letters to the people that I need to contact and sending them in so my email would be the first one to pop up when they open their mail the next day. I don't know what kind of opening letter I should write I don't think I have ever written one before but I will give it a shot.

Right now I am only going to apply to five but tomorrow I will apply for more. I hope I can go to Chicago so I can get my girlfriend off of my back.
