Inglorious Bastards

Awesome title to a movie in my opinion. But did it live up to the hype?

Last night I went to go see the new Quenton Tarantino movie and this is my review. I must say first and foremost that I am not the biggest Tarantino fan in the world, most times I try to stay away from his movies at all cost. But this one I couldn't stay away from because it is a movie that is set in one of the most interesting times in my opinion, WWII. I am a sucker for things about the war, Allies versus the Axis, how the powers at be became who they are and how they were able to influence so many people on their rise to power. But I can talk your ear off about that another day.

The movie opens up and although I think it is very unique how Tarantino opens his movies and cuts in them I dont like them. I dont like to read that it is Chapter 1, 2,or 12, honestly I dont really care, just tell me the story. I will say that the first scene was a really good one. A dairy farmer in a house that has people hiding and living in it. This to me showed the tough time that people had trying to hid people that the Nazi's where looking for. I really liked it. But it really left me wondering about more. After the Nazi's killed the people hiding did they turn their guns on the people in the house, my vote, yes, but then again they never showed it.

There is a very interesting character in the first scene. He is very convincing and how couldn't he be, he is a man from the SS. It is just amazing how smart that character is, I mean look at him he speaks three languages in the first fifteen minutes of the film, he later speaks another one. He has the diplomacy of a gentleman but the ruthlessness of a man on destructive mission.

The first scene with Brad Pitt and his Bastards was also pretty cool. He laid out what they where going to do and how. He said "Each one of you owes me 100 Nazi scalps, and I want my scalps." That was pretty cool how ruthless he really was. I also thought it was interesting the marking on his coat. It is a big red arrow head, that looks as if it says Canada on it. which is funny cause there was a battalion I think it could have been Canadian that did very intense training out in the wilderness, I forget there names but they would go out at night and go over enemy lines and cause havoc. Leaving their symbol in places where the Germans where located to cause hell.

But other than the first couple of moments I thought the movie became slow and bogged down. I really thought that there was going to be more action with the Bastards since that is what every preview really focus's on. I didnt think that there was going to be three different stories going on at the same time. It really disappointed me. I went in to the movie to see the Bastards Kick some ass. Some of the stories were interesting as well. The escaped jewish girl from the first scene makes her way back into the film and is one of the stories, it was interesting. She has a theater that a German guy who is in a movie looks to put his premiere in. She shows no interest but he persists on chasing her. His character does a drastic change at the end, it surprised me. But then the movie that he was in portrayed an act of valor when he was a soldier so whatever.

There was a one scene that was completely unnecessary, it spent all this time introducing this character that gets killed 30 min later. His character was very dull and boring. He actually sucked in my opinion. And I sat in the theater saying why did you waste my time with some english toff that you are going to kill in the next scene. Was it so you could just show that he knows his German movies? That is boring. Show me the fighting of the Bastards, that is what I want to see. You could have summed it up for when he meets up with the bastards, all he would have to say is "I am here to meet a German movie star and escort her to a movie that we are going to sabotage." Simple and easy enough. Cause we went from 1941 to 1944 in a scene and you wonder if all of the bastards are still alive or if any get picked off, well they are all alive but they grow by getting other people. My question kinda was why didnt they form with some french resistance members or anything?

I might be going way to indepth with my analysis but thats fine, I hope. That is really all I am going to give away about the movie. I was a very entertaining movie non the less but it wasn't that action packed. I found the middle was very slow and boring, and it is like all of the other Tarantino movies that I have watched. Starts fast, gets you attention and drags it out for a couple of hours, then it ends fast. For me it is like he can cut out the middle and still have a good movie.

I give this movie 3 out of 5 stars. It was funny and entertaining exactly what a movie should be, just a little too long.
