Jamaican women are fat

While I was waiting for my flight out of NY there was a flight to Jamaica right next door.  The women that got on that were huge, I mean they had to take up two seats or something.  I thought Americans where big but these women put them all to shame.  It wasnt just one or two it was like all of them.  There was only one or two women that were skinny.  I thought Jamaicans would be skinny but I guess not.

Goodbye NYC

My time in NY has ended. It is a sad day today. So many good times and great memories of my time there. Hopefully some day I will be able to make it back, I will need to just to see it all.

Mom's visit day three.

Today I had them meet me on my side of the park.  It is time to see the sights.

I dragged them all over today.  We saw many many places, first was the Plaza Hotel off of 5th ave and E59th.  A really nice hotel that has everything rich folks would ever want.  It is probably the second ritziest hotel in NY.

Right across the street is the coolest apple store ever.  It is located under ground but it has this glass case to show people that it is there, really cool.

We walked down and went into the Trump Tower, that is right next to Tiffanies, St Patricks Cathedral and 30 Rock.  All of that in one shot was not that bad.

Down the street was the Waldorf.  The most well known hotel in the City.  We had to go around to the side that faces third ave because they were shooting a movie in front of the hotel.  They had streets blocked off everything.  It was an Angelina Jolie movie called 'Salt.'  She was staying at the Hotel but I never saw her when we stopped in to have drinks.  I wish I would have, She could have joined us any day.  I am sure that my girlfriend Val is reading that and is fuming, but it's Angelina so if she would have I would have an even better story to tell.  I guess they rewrote the movie for her, the main character was suppose to be a man.

Next we went to the Empire State Building where I could show her NY, it was at night because I believe that is the best time to be up there.  It did take a long time to get up there, the lines were a bitch but thats ok when it is worth it in the end.

Mom's visit day two.

I am not going to bore you again with my traveling over to the west side.  I have never been over to the west side this much and it is really kind of boring, I am glad I live on the East side of Manhattan.

We went down to SOHO today to do a little shopping.  All the hustle and bustle down there was actually kind of fun when you know that you wouldn't be spending your money.  My mom wanted to see some of the fancy ritzy shops that are not in the Des Moines Area.  Our cab actually put us right in front of a really really cool Prada store.  It was really nice the way the place was laid out, it was off of Broadway and I am sorry I dont remember the by street but it is down there.

Walking around the couple of blocks got a little tiresome so I took them to my favorite restaurant in NY Lombardi's and got a pie.  Having my taste buds explode one last time was amazing as ever.

Since we were right in the area I took them to China town (even though my mom hatted people trying to sell you everything), Little Italy (what's left of it), Tribeca, Greenwich, and the west Village.

It was a productive day, but not that productive.  Tomorrow I will get them.

first day with my mom in NYC

She had just flown in to NYC with her friend.  My mom had never been here before.  I walked across the park to get to the hotel she was staying at to meet them.  It was rainy by the time that I met my mom on the Upper West Side, but I was excited to see her non the less.

We had lunch at a little place on the corner, I dont really remember the place that we went but it was a burger place.  It was a little mind blowing, not because of the food but the menu.  They had so options to choose from, I really didnt know if I made the right choice or not.  They had about thirty or forty different options for just about everything.

Since it was rainy out we decided it would be a good day to go to one of the many museums in NY.  I will admit that I had gone to a lot and there was only one left that I wanted to see, the Guggenheim.  We took a cab all the way back to the Upper East Side to the Museum mile and tried to go in side.  The damn thing was closed, they don't open on Thursdays.  The only thing that we could go into was the store that they had.  So since we were there we went in.

We walked from E89th to E80th to the MET.  I had already been there with my girlfriend, but I didn't get to see all of it, because it is so massive.  It really reminded me of the Louvre in Paris, so many paintings and artifacts that if you read every single one your mind would explode.  So when we entered I turned to my mom and said, "Unless you want to be in one exhibit for the entire day don't read everything, skim it."  Luckily for me she did.  We went through the Ancient Egyptian, American, and Modern art exhibitions while we where there.  I took a picture of my favorite piece that Jackson Pollock did, it is a little out of focus but I love it so I put it as a picture.

We went back to the hotel to chill out for a little bit before we went out for dinner.  It took a long time before everyone was ready to go.

We walked from the hotel on W77th to mid town before we ducked into an Irish Bar.  I swear I don't think I have gone to any other kind of bar since I have been in NY.  I don't know why but I always find an Irish bar and that is the one I always go into.  It might be because there are so many of them but a bar is a bar.

After dinner I decided to take my mom to Times Square, we were in fact a block away from it and why not, we would have to see it sometime why not make it right now.

I left them in Times Square because it was getting late and they wanted to go back to crash.  I told them where to get a taxi from and I walked the other way.  I ended up walking right by the Radio City Music Hall on my way home.

Until Tomorrow.

photos in the park

St. Pattys day.

Yesterday was a great day and should be considered a national holiday.  Proposition 317.  But anyways I went to the NYC StP day parade and it was interesting for a little while.  Then it got to be the same thing over and over.  It was just people walking down the street.  It was lead by the US Army's fighting 69th.  I can not believe how they can march like that.  I guess they train for it all the time but still, marching in unison has to be really hard.

The bands were interesting.  Of course you had people in Kilts playing bagpipes, but then you would also have people dressed up in civil war gear and revolutionary gear.  Playing the instruments of the day.  I liked that, it was better than watching just regular marching bands.  It made me feel like I was in that period if only for a second.

This is sick.

Some people are just fucked up. An Iraqi soccer player has been shot dead just as he was about to shoot on the goal keeper. A supporter of the opposing team shot him. This is unbelievable. It is a game, nothing more. For pleasure not worth dieing for. I can not believe how sick some people can be at any given moment. Idiots always carry guns.

It is the most wonderful time of the year!

The greatest events of the year is not the Super Bowl, World Cup, Olympics, World Series or the NBA Playoffs, no no. The best time of the year is March Madness baby. Watching David slay Goliath is always worth watching. You never know what will happen in the field of 65 and that is what makes it so exciting. Watching the stories of these little colleges who cant even recruit the same caliber player as the big boys and beat them at the last second. Watching the best basketball on the planet for one month is always great. Leaving it all on the floor, blood sweat and tears. Keeping the nation captivated The madness never fails.

That bastards flooding my apartment

The person that lives in the apartment above me is flooding my apartment.  For the past hour and a half my bathroom has had a constant stream of water flowing from the ceiling.  This isnt the first time this has happened but it has never been this bad.  It is even dripping outside of the bathroom.  I have pots and a bucket trying to gather all of the water and I have already had to dump them twice.  I have standing water in the bathroom and it is leaking to the hard wood flooring.

The SOB isnt even in his apartment.  I hear the water dripping from his door, what the fuck is he doing.  He either takes one bath a month and just leaves the tub full or I dont even know.  The water is a dark yellow color.  I have taken all of my valuables and taken them off of the floor.

I have contacted the person that I sublease from but that cant do anything until the douchebag gets home

Shopping time.

Today I am going to probably buy some discount movies and games. The Virgin Megastore in Times Square is going out of biz. This is awesome. I went with a friend last Sunday and they had a ton of stuff. I didnt buy anything then because things were not discounted enough, only twenty five percent. I am hoping that five days later it has moved up to fifty percent. I hope the items will still be there but you never know. I would say they are because they had hundreds of copies of what I wanted.

I found a cool picture today

I really like it, I think it is fun and interesting.  I just wonder as the seasons change do they change color?

Let the FIFA 08 Champ speak

We have been having a tournament on the PS3 here at the office on who is the better FIFA 08 player.  It is me.  I am kicking ass and taking names.  No one is better then me.  I am on a five game winning streak outside of the tourny.  I love that game, you can call me a geek all you want I dont care.

The crumbling Advertising industry

The advertising industry is in a state of panic right now.  There has been massive layoffs in the last six months, massive.  A couple of agencies fired half of their staff, some fired everyone that didn't have a senior as a title.  If the economy keeps tanking I dont know if I will be able to find a job.  No one is hiring right now because they are to busy cutting the purse strings.

This was brought up because a couple of guys that I am greenhousing with at Lowe, got an internship through the Miami Ad School to go to Dubai.  They were planning on it and everything, they had been told that they were going to be there last month.  Today they received an email saying that they are not going to be there.  Our next quarter starts April 6 and they dont have anywhere to go.

I too fell in this trap.  But I finally found a place to go.  The school told me that I am accepted to Crispin Porter.  I dont know if I am going to go there, I applied for internships in Chicago, and if I get those I am going to Chicago, to get paid and see the most beautiful girl in the world.  Then after my internship was finished I would go back to the school and maybe Crispin.

In the end I believe the Karma bug came and bit this group.  They were the same group that stole my idea.  What comes around goes around.

My choice.

I finally have choices. I can either take the greenhouse internship at Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Boulder with the school, or I could continue bothering the people that I contacted for my internship. I hope my luck continues so I can have a pleathra of choices to choose from.

I have something pulling me to Chicago so I will try with the internships there, but you never know. I have a feeling I might be in trouble when I call my lovely girlfriend tonight but that's ok it wont be the first nor the last time I am in trouble, unless she hunts me down.

Cover letter complete

This morning at like 6am I finally finished a really good cover letter.  Or at least I think it is good.  I am trying to apply for an internship outside of the school.  It took me a while to write it because I got distracted by the magic picture box that is in my room.  But once I turned that damn thing off I was kind of stumped, I had never written a cover letter before.  Thank God for google I found some examples and based it off of that.  It took me a while to figure what I needed to write about myself but I think I did a good job of it.  Hopefully this will get my foot in the door.  Now I just have to write to another contact very carefully, Joy.

I am finally getting off my hump.

Today I have been doing something that I should have done a long time ago. Apply for internships outside of Miami Ad School. I am looking for an internship in Chicago, because that would make the girlfriend happy. I will be up really late tonight writing letters to the people that I need to contact and sending them in so my email would be the first one to pop up when they open their mail the next day. I don't know what kind of opening letter I should write I don't think I have ever written one before but I will give it a shot.

Right now I am only going to apply to five but tomorrow I will apply for more. I hope I can go to Chicago so I can get my girlfriend off of my back.

Honk honk honk

Every weekday I get the same wake up call at 7am. I know, I know many people get up at 7 or before everyday. But I like to sleep until 9. So when I am rudely awaken at a time I do not even what to know it makes it really hard. They honk at everything, if there is a red light they think if they honk or lay on the horn long enough it will change to green. My favorite is when they honk when the light turns green, at that instant they honk, before a person could ever let off of the breaks they honk, I just cant believe it.

When I move I am going to miss NY a lot, but I will never miss their incessant honking.

Little Italy isn't all it is cracked up to be.

Today was the second time that I went to NYC famed Little Italy, located off of Mulberry street.  It is only two blocks of just restaurants and little knick knacks shops.  The people stand outside of the restaurant and bug the shit out of you to get you to come in.  No other place is like this in NYC.  There isn't much difference from menu to menu down the block.

I have gone into two restaurants and they have been mediocre at best.  The first restaurant was completely awful, the worst Italian food that I ever had in my life.  The one that I went to today was OK, nothing to make me go back.

If you come to NY and want good Italian food, I recommend not going Little Italy.  There are a lot of really good Italian restaurants that are not in that area.  I recommend going there.

The dismantling of the Cowboys

The past two days have been big for the Cowboys, yesterday they finally released the cancer T.O. and today they have released their Safety Roy Williams.  I expect that they are going to release a few more people by the end of the week.  Jerry Jones has finally got the idea that it is a team game, no one player is more important then the other.  I think last summers signing of the Thug pacman finally showed him that.

I love this, I absolutely hate the Cowboys.  Watching them on Fox having Troy give his two cents have driven me nuts for the past couple of years.  They are always a favorite but they are never really that good.  Starting off strong doesn't mean that you will end strong.  September and October they maybe the team to beat but everyone beats them in November and December.

T.O. is the biggest ass right now in sports I think.  He goes to a team and destroys them right after.  I hope people that are in charge of signings find that out and dont sign him.  If you have a good thing going already you don't need T.O.  Don.t give that bastard the lime light that he wants.

Roy Williams on the other hand is a really good player and I have no idea why they let him go.  But I am thankful that they did.  I would like to see the Vikings go after him to anchor the D.

Public Enemies

A new movie staring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale coming out on July 1st.  I will be at the theater that day waiting for this movie to come out.  It looks completely badass.  It is the story of a famous American Bank Robber John Dillinger.  He was seen as the modern day Robin Hood in the late 20's and early 30's.  He was also known for the distinctive way he would jump over the counter, which would later be copied by Hollywood of course.

Johnny Depp is going to give another memerable preformance as Dillinger.  And I dont think Bale will have as much of a tyraid as he did filming the new Terminator movie.  This is going to be the movie of the Summer just you watch.  Hopefully Hollywood will not try and change the story, because it is already a proven story that captivated a nation back in the day.

Elevator Biz

In NYC there is one industry that I would really like to be in, Elevator repairs for the city.  You may wonder why does this guy want to be in elevators, it is a long way off of advertising?  Well it is simple.  Everyday I wake up and go to the metro station at E63rd and Lexington ave.  Every day there are at least three elevators closed being repaired.  Some are not running and you can still walk up or down them, others are gutted.  It has been that way since January, when I moved here.   It is a racket what can I say.

Bulleit Bourbon

Today I was given an interesting assignment advertise for Bulleit Bourbon.  Being a brown liquor fan that I am(especially Bourbon), I figured that this is a good excuse to toss a few back.  I would do it anyways but when it comes to research I am very thorough in my investigations.

This Bourbon has a really interesting story, just waiting for someone to tell it.  It all started back in the 1830's when a tavern keeper in Kentucky named Augustus Bulleit set out to create a unique flavor of Bourbon.  While transporting barrels of his bourbon from Kentucky to New Orleans in 1859, Augustus vanished.  He could have been robbed, killed, or even abducted by aliens, who knows, no one ever heard from him again.  No one in the family picked up his torch to continue making the family bourbon.  The recipe sat and sat waiting for the day that it could see light again.

In 1987 Augustus' great great grandson stepped in to revive the recipe.  Tom Bulleit gave up being a lawyer to continued the almost forgotten family tradition.

As for the taste, I don't know yet, I still need to try it.  But to me it is a interesting story non the less.  I give Tom a lot of credit to pursue his dreams, it shows that the American dream isn't dead.

I hope to have another post rating it by the end of the week.
